Functionality to Look for in an Assisted-Living Suite
If you are looking for an assisted-living environment, there are certain things you should look for that will make your life more comfortable and your suite more functional. Here’s a short list of things that we think are important for the functionality in an assisted-living suite.
Housekeeping and Laundry
You will want some housekeeping and laundry services readily available to residents. Make your life easy: let someone else do the housekeeping and laundry.
Kitchenette
While you may not want to prepare most of your meals, and meals should be available to residents in a common area, you may want to prepare a little something in your own suite. Be sure to look for at least a small kitchenette. It will be very handy.
24-Hour Staff
You should look for 24-hour staff, not just professional nursing staff, but also 24-hour security. You will want to feel safe and well looked after at all times—and so will your family.
Spiritual Support
It is a great thing if there is spiritual support and/or church services and activities available to residents. Many people were active in their churches before moving to an assisted-living environment and wish to continue to do so.
Availability of Long-Term Care
This is a big plus. If you choose an assisted-living environment where long-term care is available, that means you will never have to move if you require more care than in assisted-living. That more complex care is already available to you should you need it.
The Hamlets at Penticton is a supportive, long-term care and assisted-living community in the beautiful Okanagan area of BC. In a compassionate environment based on the tenets of Christianity, The Hamlets of Penticton offers security and independence for seniors in their retirement years.
