Great Summer Activities for Penticton Seniors

Great Summer Activities for Penticton Seniors

June 21st, 2022

Penticton is a beautiful town in south central British Columbia, where we have a long-term care and assisted-living community called the Hamlets at Penticton. Located between and bordering on Okanagan Lake to the north and Skaha Lake to the south, Penticton is a very desirable place to live because of its mild climate and wealth of activities available. In today’s blog, we will talk about some great summer activities for seniors in Penticton.

Farmer’s Market

There is a fabulous Farmer’s Market in Penticton that has been operating for over 30 years. Definitely go to the Farmer’s Market at least once. There are around 50 vendors selling products that are grown, baked, or made. But you don’t have to buy anything! Just walk around and look at the amazing fruits and vegetables grown in the Penticton area.

The Farmer’s Market is open from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm on Saturdays from mid-April until the end of October. Visiting the market can be a social activity where you can meet other locals, and just enjoy a day out.

Peach Festival

There is a famous Peach Festival in Penticton that has existed for about 75 years. The festival spans several days from August 3 through August 7, and includes tons of activities like a parade, a square dance, live music, and food. The Peach Festival is an important part of Penticton’s history, and seniors would enjoy experiencing it whether you partake in the sports and dance or not.

Lake Activities

Since Penticton borders on two lakes, there are always activities available at the lake. Athletic seniors can canoe or kayak or swim, and if you desire something calmer, how about fishing, or just going for a walk along the edge. The lake is also good for photography and bird watching.

These are just a few of many activities in and around Penticton that are appropriate for seniors. Take advantage of the summer weather and get outside for some fun and social outings. At the very least, visit the Farmer’s Market and Peach Festival which are big parts of the Penticton culture.

The Hamlets at Penticton is a supportive, long-term care and assisted-living community in the beautiful Okanagan area of BC. In a compassionate environment based on the tenets of Christianity, The Hamlets of Penticton offers security and independence for seniors in their retirement years.
